USE OF TEST CYCLES FOR STUDYING THE OPERATIONAL PROPERTIES OF TRANSPORT CONSTRUCTION MACHINERY

The article discusses the main test cycles that can be used to evaluate the operational properties of transport construction machines. In particular, with their help, it is possible to study the environmental safety and fuel efficiency of machines of various purposes, which are used in transport construction. The work presents the methods and procedures by which the operational properties of such machines are investigated. The considered test cycles of engines of agricultural machinery, road construction machines, excavators, ship, industrial and locomotive engines, provided by the international standard ISO 8178. This standard consists of 11 chapters, which describe in detail the test procedure and methods of measuring the content of harmful substances in exhaust gases of various types engines, fuel type requirements and analysis of the obtained results. ISO 8178 contains a series of engine bench test cycles designed for different classes of engines and equipment, each of which is a sequence of steady-state or transient modes with different load factors. In the event that conducting tests on a motor stand is difficult, this standard provides for measurement under operating conditions. In this case, the standard test cycles do not apply and the tests are carried out while the vehicle is operating in its normal operating mode. Emissions are measured using the Portable emissions measurement system (PEMS). Test cycles are one of the effective tools for evaluating the fuel economy and environmental performance of transport construction machines. They allow you to get a lot of useful information about various aspects of the machines, such as fuel consumption, emissions of harmful substances, noise level, engine efficiency, etc. One of the disadvantages of using test cycles is their limited versatility. Different types of machines have their own unique features, so in order to achieve the maximum efficiency of research, it is necessary to develop test cycles that correspond to the specifics of different types of machines.

Modern methods of testing vehicles for environmental safety

Introduction (problem statement and relevance). The problem of reducing emissions of harmful substances (HS) by road transport plays a paramount role in solving the environmental problem in the advanced countries of the world.The purpose of the work was to develop a route according to the RDE test methodology (tests for emissions in real operating conditions) to determine the fuel consumption and emissions values of worked out harmful substances in exhaust gases of vehicles, close to real operating modes.Methodology and research methods. The analytical method of research was applied.Results. Information was provided on current regulatory documents, requirements and test methods, together with the trends in the development of new test methods for assessing the environmental and fuel-economic characteristics of vehicles. Comparative parameters/modes of various laboratory tests driving cycles were presented, together with test route requirements and speed limits in real road conditions. The expediency of introducing and applying new test methods to obtain real data on fuel consumption was noted.Practical significance. The direct full-scale route testing on the ground with the application of the PEMS gas analysis complex confirmed the possibility of using the RDE test methodology technique on the territory of the Russian Federation virtually all year round.

Revealing the effect of plasma-chemical treatment of propane-butane fuel on the environmental characteristics of the internal combustion engine

One of the key problems of modern engine construction is the improvement of environmental performance while ensuring a competitive price of produced engines. This is achieved using state-of-the-art control systems, expensive fuel equipment, and complex exhaust gas neutralization systems. The search for ways to improve the environmental performance of transport engines without significant complication of their structure is a priority area of modern research. Plasma chemical treatment of gas makes it possible to reduce the level of harmful substances in exhaust gases by 1.5‒4 times relative to operation on propane-butane without processing. This paper considers the possibility of using a plasma dynamic stabilization technique and conducting an electric discharge without contact with metal electrodes for the implementation of endothermic reactions whose implementation requires energy from an external source. During test experiments, volt-ampere characteristics of the system with needle electrodes were established, the distance between which was 2‒5 mm at different feed pressures of propane-butane gas mixture (75 % propane and 25 % butane). At the outlet of the plasma-chemical reactor, a hydrogen-containing gas mixture is obtained, which is subsequently supplied to the combustion chamber through the regular gas fuel system of the engine. Next, when such a gas mixture burns in the combustion chamber, hydrogen acts as a catalyst for chemical reactions, which reduces the thickness of the flame extinguishing front, increases the speed and completeness of combustion of the gas mixture. Based on the results of comparative motor studies, it was found that plasma-chemical treatment of propane-butane has almost no influence on the effective efficiency of the engine and specific fuel consumption. It should also be noted that the use of plasma-chemical reactors on board a vehicle allows them to be integrated into regular gas fuel engine systems with minimal changes in their structure, which has almost no effect on the mass-size indicators and maintenance conditions of the gas fuel system

WAYS TO EFFECTIVELY ADDRESS PROBLEMS EXISTING IN THE URBAN PASSENGER TRANSPORT SYSTEM

At present, public transport needs to be managed using the different models, which will take into account health problems, passenger transport problems, refinement of technical parameters of buses and their adaptation to urban operating conditions, which would be one of the preventive measures in the context of combating the coronavirus pandemic. The article discusses the issues of optimizing the routeing scheme of buses and minibuses in the conditions of a three-level transport network in large cities. Measures for the performance of the city bus routes have been developed. It has been established that the qualification of a driver and the selection of urban passenger vehicles are central issues in terms of fuel efficiency and reducing the number of harmful substances in exhaust gases.

Experimental Assessment of the Impact of Replacing Diesel Fuel with CNG on the Concentration of Harmful Substances in Exhaust Gases in a Dual Fuel Diesel Engine

The problem of global warming and related climate change, as well as rising oil prices, is driving the implementation of ideas that not only reduce the consumption of liquid fuels, but also reduce greenhouse gas emissions. One of them is the use of natural gas as an energy source. It is a hydrocarbon fuel with properties allowing the reduction of CO2 emissions during its combustion. Therefore, solutions are being implemented that allow natural gas to be supplied to means of transport, which are trucks of various categories and purposes. This article presents the results of tests of an engine from a used semi-truck, to which an innovative compressed natural gas (CNG) supply system was installed. This installation (both hardware and software), depending on the engine operating conditions, enables mass replacement by natural gas (up to 90%) of the basic fuel—diesel oil. During the tests, on the basis of the obtained results, the influence of the diesel fuel/CNG exchange ratio under various engine operating conditions on the concentration of toxic CO2, CO, NO, NO2, CH4, C2H6, NMHC, NH3 and exhaust smoke was assessed. The test results confirm that, compared to conventional fueling, the diesel/CNG-fueled engine allows for a significant reduction in CO2 concentration even in a car operated for several years with diesel fuel and with high mileage. The use of a non-factory installation significantly increased the concentration of methane CH4, nitrogen dioxide NO2 and carbon monoxide CO in the exhaust gas. It was found that the smoke content and the temperature of exhaust gases did not decrease with increasing ratio of fuel replacement. The concentration of CO, NOX, CH4 and NMHC was increased, while the concentration of CO2, C2H6, NH3 and the consumption of diesel fuel by the engine, decreased significantly. The innovation of the research is based on the use of a modern and unique engine gas fuel system control system where the original fuel supply system with unit pumps is able to reduce diesel oil consumption by up to 90%.

HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE OF AUTOMATIC CONTROL SYSTEM OF FUEL COMBUSTION PROCESS IN LOW AND MEDIUM POWER BOILERS. PART 2. ALGORITHMIC SOFTWARE

The efficiency of the functioning of boiler units depends on the availability of reliable information on the progress of technological processes. The lack of control and measuring systems for the composition of the exhaust gases leads to low efficiency of the boiler unit, in particular, due to poor-quality fuel combustion. Therefore, in modern operating conditions of boiler units, it is relevant to develop technological solutions focused on finding and minimizing the causes and mechanisms of the formation of harmful substances in exhaust gases.
 Due to the fact that replacement of outdated boiler units with new ones requires significant capital investments, a promising direction is the modernization of existing boiler units. It is a low-cost and efficient way of rational use of fuel while simultaneously reducing the level of harmful substances in exhaust gases. It remains relevant to ensure the functioning of the control systems for the composition of the air-fuel mixture (AFM) with a given speed and high reliability of maintaining the excess air ratio (EAR) at the stoichiometric level.
 In the article the high-quality algorithm is proposed for the operation of an automatic control system for the combustion of fuel in boilers of medium and low power by regulating the ratio of the components of the AFM for the burner with feedback according to the signals of the oxygen sensor. The algorithms for the operation of the frequency regulator of the ratio of the components of the AFM in various operating modes are considered. The developed algorithms allowed maintaining the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio in the boiler furnace, reducing the level of toxic emissions into the atmosphere and increasing the boiler efficiency by optimizing the fuel combustion process. The AFM ratio programmer is made in the LM Programmer technical programming environment and works with Windows operating systems (XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10) and oxygen sensors manufactured by Bosch. The visualization of the control process of the fuel combustion process is made in the technical programming environment LogWorks 3 and operates in the environment of Windows operating systems.

ЕКОЛОГІЧНІ ІННОВАЦІЇ ЯК ІНСТРУМЕНТ СТАЛОГО РОЗВИТКУ ТРАНСПОРТНИХ ПІДПРИЄМСТВ

The article considers the problems of ecological innovations on the transport in combination with the concept of sustainable development. The essence and specifics of ecological innovations are determined. Ecological innovations, as well as the other types of innovations, are aimed at making a profit and reduce costs, but their specificity is manifested in the social, cultural and ethical context, which is directly related to the concept of sustainable development. The main reasons of the introduction of environmental innovations on the transport are considered, namely: increasing the efficiency and functionality of the transport systems, reducing energy consumption, reduction of negative impact on the environment, widespread use of intelligent traffic management systems and tools for optimizing traffic flows. Ecological innovation is directly related to the concept of sustainable development and is seen as a tool for its implementation. This is a completely new approach to entrepreneurship, according to which not only financial results but also observance of ethical and moral norms, social justice, and environmental protection are important. Strengthening of the environmental standards is considered in the article as an important factor in the implementation of environmental innovations by the transport companies. In particular, the constant increase of the European environmental standards, which regulate the content of harmful substances in exhaust gases, forces motor transport companies to continuously modify and update existing rolling stock. The expected development of the fleet of heavy trucks in Ukraine by 2030 is considered. The examples of the ecological innovations on the transport according to the traditional OECD classification are given. The key role of management in decision-making regarding to the implementation of environmental innovations and sustainable development of the enterprise is highlighted. It is concluded that transport enterprises will actively implement environmental innovations and follow the principles of sustainable development only if they make a profit by reducing operating costs and/or improving the image of the enterprise, which is impossible without strengthening social responsibility of the society.

The impact of particulate filter substrate type on the gaseous exhaust components emission

The article presents ceramic and metal substrate filtration efficiency in the particulate filter of a spark-ignition engine with direct fuel injection. Gaseous exhaust components were taken into account. There are many publications on the solid particles mass and number reduction, so the authors examined the effect of catalytic carriers on gaseous compounds, such as CO, NOx, THC, whose content also poses a threat to human health and life, and this issue is not often described in the literature dedicated to measurements of modern internal combustion engines. During the tests, the length and carrier material effect on the emission of harmful substances in exhaust gases was determined.

Hydrogen application in internal combustion engines

A technical solution has been proposed to reduce the consumption of basic hydrocarbon fuel, to improve the technical, economic and environmental performance of internal combustion engines by affecting the combustion process of the fuel-air mixture with a minimum effective mass fraction of hydrogen additive in the fuel-air mixture. The burning rate of hydrogen-air mixtures is an order of magnitude greater than the burning rate of similar mixtures based on gasoline or diesel fuel, compared with the former, they are favorably distinguished by their greater detonation stability. With minimal additions of hydrogen to the fuel-air charge, its combustion time is significantly reduced, since hydrogen, having previously mixed with a portion of the air entering the cylinder and burning itself, effectively ignites the mixture in its entirety. Issues related to the accumulation of hydrogen on board the car, its storage, explosion safety, etc., significantly inhibit the development of mass production of cars using hydrogen fuel. The described technical solution allows the generation of hydrogen on board the car and without accumulation to use it as an additive to the main fuel in internal combustion engines. The technical result is to reduce the consumption of hydrocarbon fuels (of petroleum origin) and increase the environmental friendliness of the car due to the reduction of the emission of harmful substances in exhaust gases.

The paper analyses problems associated with the use of mining machinery equipped with diesel engine releases of exhaust gases that have a harmful impact on human health and the environment. The mining industry uses a wide range of equipment powered by diesel engines: dump trucks, backhoe loaders, drill jumbos and other mining machinery. Engine exhaust gases contain toxic elements that have a significant impact on human health and the environment. Air pollution from gases leads to standbys of mine sites, while a reduced visibility on a route results in a partial or total equipment shutdown. At present, environmental requirements to vehicle engines are a top concern. The problem of air pollution with harmful substances contained in diesel engine exhausts is becoming a global challenge. Solutions of these issues require joint efforts from many countries. International conventions and adoption of relevant standards serve as a means of rapprochement in this sphere. Most operations in Europe, Asia and America are guided by similar standards as to the content of harmful substances in exhaust gases, the European Union being an influencer in this regard by frequently introducing updates and stringent regulations. Other countries are following this trend and revising their emission standards too. European states had paid attention to this issue earlier than other countries. Today, environmental requirements to vehicle engines are a top priority. Research in this field is focused on such issues as increasing productivity of mining machinery engines, reducing labour costs of maintenance and repairs, enhancing fuel efficiency and significantly improving environmental performance.

Mining machinery and environmental regulations of countries worldwide

The purpose of the work is to analyze the problems of using mining machines with diesel engines, the exhaust gases of which have a harmful effect on human health and the environment. Research methodology. The environmental problems arising from the use of mining machines, and environmental standards governing the use of diesel engines in different countries of the world are analyzed. Results. Environmental protection is one of the most important problems of humanity, since people’s lives, their health and well-being depend on its solution. The mining industry operates a huge amount of equipment with diesel engines: mining trucks, excavators, drilling rigs and other mining machines. Engine exhaust fumes contain toxic elements that have a significant impact on human health and the environment. The gas pollution of the working atmosphere entails the need to stop the quarry, and the deterioration of visibility on the highway also causes a partial or complete shutdown of the equipment until the content of harmful substances in the air drops to normal. Today, environmental requirements for a car engine are priority, so the global engine industry is aimed not only at increasing their performance, but also at significantly improving their environmental performance. The problem of air pollution by harmful substances contained in the exhaust of diesel engines is becoming global. To solve it requires the joint efforts of many countries. International conventions and the adoption of relevant standards serve as a tool for rapprochement in this area. Conclusions. Most countries in Europe, Asia and America are guided by similar standards for the content of harmful substances in exhaust gases. The EU in this regard is a kind of authority: it most often updates these indicators and implements strict legal regulation. Other countries are following this trend and are also updating emission standards.

The impact of the use of compressed natural gas in a car diesel engine on the formation and oxidation of soot particles

The problems of using compressed natural gas in diesel as an alternative fuel and reducing the content of harmful substances in exhaust gases are considered. At the same time, the problems of formation and burning of soot particles in the diesel cylinder during its operation on natural gas and their influence on the combustion process and flame characteristics are considered separately. The results of bench tests on the impact of the use of compressed natural gas on the effective performance, environmental performance and fluidity of exhaust gases are presented. The parameters of the combustion process and heat dissipation characteristics are considered, the values of the mass content of soot in the engine cylinder depending on the angle of rotation of the crankshaft are calculated. The optimal values of the effective parameters, characteristics of the combustion process, toxicity and smokiness of exhaust gases during the operation of diesel on compressed natural gas are determined. Conversion of the considered diesel from oil diesel fuel to compressed natural gas allowed to reduce the content of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gases by 17.0%, soot in 25 times, carbon dioxide by 10.1%.

This article considers usage of blue-green algae as biomaterials for creation of motor biofuels. The object of the study is effect of blended biodiesel fuels from blue-green algae on the environmental and energy performances for the diesel engine. The purpose of the work is experimental study of changes of power and ecological characteristics of automobile diesel engines using petroleum diesel and their mixtures with biofuels derived from blue-green algae. Methods of research are experimental, laboratory ones. As a result of performed experimental researches dependences of changing of the effective engine power on the use of diesel fuel and a mixture of diesel fuel with the received bioactive supplements based on methyl esters of the lipid fraction of blue-green algae Chroococcfles in the amount of 5, 10 and 20% were established. It has been experimentally established that the effective power of an engine using a mixture of diesel fuel with the derived bioactive compounds based on methyl esters of the lipid fraction of blue-green algae Chroococcfles in the amount of 5, 10 and 20% will decrease by an average of 0,9, 1,8 and 3,5 %. It has been experimentally determined that the content of carbon monoxide in the use of a mixture of diesel fuel with the derived bioactive compounds based on methyl esters of the lipid fraction of blue-green algae Chroococcfles in the amount of 5, 10 and 20 % will decrease by an average of 6,5, 13,9 and 28,7 %. The obtained results allow to optimize the choice of fuels for power systems of internal combustion engines and to reduce emissions of harmful substances in exhaust gases of automobile diesel engines. Energy efficiency of diesel engines in the oil and gas industry when transferred to alternative fuels

This article considers usage of blue-green algae as biomaterials for creation of motor biofuels. Proliferation of blue-green algae leads to water rotting, destruction of aquatic ecosystems and destruction of rivers and lakes that is why clearing of water bodies from blue-green algae is an urgent task. The object of the study is effect of blended biodiesel fuels from blue-green algae on the environmental and energy performances for the diesel engine. The purpose of the work is experimental study of changes of power and ecological characteristics of automobile diesel engines using petroleum diesel and their mixtures with biofuels derived from blue-green algae. Methods of research are experimental, laboratory ones. Laboratory researches were carried out on an experimental installation based on the serial diesel engine D21A1. As a result of performed experimental researches dependences of changing of the effective engine power on the use of diesel fuel and a mixture of diesel fuel with the received bioactive supplements based on methyl esters of the lipid fraction of blue-green algae Chroococcfles in the amount of 5, 10 and 20 % were established. It has been experimentally established that the effective power of an engine using a mixture of diesel fuel with the derived bioactive compounds based on methyl esters of the lipid fraction of blue-green algae Chroococcfles in the amount of 5, 10 and 20 % will decrease by an average of 0,9, 1,8 and 3,5 %. Improving the technical and environmental performance of piston engines by upgrading the fuel system

The article presents the results of an experimental study of the dispersion of superheated water through cylindrical channels and nozzles of piston internal combustion engines under different initial conditions. The advantages and disadvantages of modern diesel engine fuel systems are discussed in the article. The process of explosive boiling in relation to the fuel system of a piston engine is formulated and briefly described. A description of the laboratory setup and methods of conducting experiments is given in the article. The results of the visualization of sprayed superheated water through a cylindrical channel and through a diesel engine nozzle of 21/21 dimension are presented. The original scheme of the fuel system for a diesel engine using the effect of explosive boiling is proposed. Preliminary estimates have shown that the use of such a fuel system will increase the reliability of the combustion chamber elements of a piston engine, reduce specific fuel consumption (up to 2%) and reduce the amount of harmful substances in exhaust gases (an average of 12% compared with traditional fuel systems).

The problem of air basin pollution of the World Ocean with harmful emissions from the exhaust gases of marine diesel engines is primarily associated with the creation of highly efficient technologies for the neutralization of nitrogen oxides NOx on exhaust gases from a diesel engine. Emissions of harmful substances from the combustion of marine fuels are limited by international atmospheric protection programs and the requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The requirements relate to almost all groups of harmful emissions in marine engines and the more stringent of them are primarily related to nitrogen oxides NOx and sulfur oxides SOx. To reduce harmful emissions from exhaust gases into the environment, scientists and world engine leaders use and suggest various methods for reducing the content of harmful substances in exhaust gases. The implementation of new standards in the areas of further improvement of the working process, the use of alternative fuels, fuel, and air additives, as well as selective catalytic reduction systems do not preclude further development of scientific research in the field of exhaust gas cleaning. One of the promising ways in environmentalizing marine internal combustion engines is the neutralization of harmful substances in exhaust gases through particular gas recirculation (EGR-technology). However, the use of such techniques conflicts with the engine's energy efficiency. In the work presented, the scheme-design solution of the exhaust gas recirculation system with using the heat of recirculation gases by an ejector refrigeration machine for cooling the air at the intake of ship's main engine is proposed. The effect of using the heat of recirculation gases for cooling the air at the intake of the engine is analyzed taking into account the changing climatic conditions for a particular vessel's route line. It is shown that the use of an ejector refrigeration machine reduces the air temperature at the entrance of the main engine by 5…15 ° С, which reduces the specific fuel consumption. This reduces emissions of harmful substances when the engine is running with recirculation of gases.

Research into emissions of nitrogen oxides when converting the diesel engines to alternative fuels

We conducted theoretical and experimental research into emissions of nitrogen oxides in exhaust gases of the diesel engines, re-equipped for gas. The research is important because the emissions of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gases are one of the biggest environmental problems at the present stage of development of designs for internal combustion engines. Therefore, reducing the emissions of nitrogen oxides in diesel engines by re-equipping them to gas fuel is an important task for specialists in design and operation of internal combustion engines. The result of theoretical research is the mathematical model that we constructed in order to calculate emissions of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gases of diesel engines and the engines, converted to gas fuel. Based on experimental research, we have established dependences of emissions of nitrogen oxides in exhaust gases of the diesel engines, re-equipped for gas, on loading and the crankshaft rotation frequency. Studies have shown that diesel engines, which are converted to alternative gas fuel, reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gases in a range from 13.9 % to 47.1 % depending on engine rotation and load. The results obtained make it possible to reduce the emissions of harmful substances in exhaust gases of automobile engines and optimize design of the systems for exhaust gases recirculation

АВТОМАТИЗИРОВАННАЯ СИСТЕМА УПРАВЛЕНИЯ РАБОТОЙ БЕНЗИНОВОГО ВПРЫСКОВОГО ДВИГАТЕЛЯ В РЕЖИМЕ ХОЛОСТОГО ХОДА

The purpose of research is improving the petrol fuel injected (injector) motor vehicles in mode independent of idling by the fuel-air mixture composition control adjustment by an automated control system that provides reconfiguration (reprogramming) of standard motor controller for the air / fuel mixture corresponding to the specified high-speed idling. The article is devoted to solving problems related to the operation of the engine with injected fuel at low rpm model of independent mode is idle (at stops and Parking of motor vehicles with the engine running) that is due to poor mixture formation is characterized by impaired flow of operating the process of the cylinders. Developed a new way of working gasoline engine with fuel mode injection independent of idling and automated system for its implementation, allowing the air / fuel mixture adjusting through the regular reprogramming the engine control module on the air-fuel mixture corresponding to the specified high-speed idling. The advantage of this system is the compactness, wide availability of components and the ability to quickly connect to the circuit established to the engine controller. Studies show that the use of the automated system control the operation of a fuel injected engine in a mode independent of idling allows to reduce the minimum stable engine speed is up to 300-600 min-1, the operational fuel consumption by 15-20%, the content of harmful substances in exhaust gases by 30-60% compared to engine operation in normal configuration
